- WHAT IS THE JOB INFORMATION EXCHANGE?
This site is primarily intended for the exchange of information, ideas, frustrations, etc experienced by job seekers and displaced workers. This site is free for everyone, and content is moderated to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions.
- HOW DOES IT WORK?
Each registered participant is given the opportunity to post his or her resume and a "letter" to the community. This letter should not be considered a cover letter, it should however, describe the career goals, professional and personal strengths, and the participant's experiences and frustrations regarding his job search. The participant may also pose questions to the community on any matter pertaining to that search.
- WHO MAY VIEW THE RESUMES AND LETTERS?
Anyone who accesses this site may freely view any resume, letter or posted response.
- HOW DO I POST MY RESUME AND OPEN LETTER?
Please review the terms and conditions for this site, then go to the registration page. For tips on submitting your resume, see the How Do I Format My Resume? page.
- WHAT IS THE OPEN LETTER FOR?
Many members will be tempted to put a cover letter here, but in this context, it is intended as an opportunity to voice the frustrations you have experienced during your job hunt, and to solicit ideas from your peers. You may ask for feedback re resume writing, the interview process, or list personal strengths that may be important to an employer but not appropriate for inclusion on a resume. The information you give in your letter can improve the quality and usefulness of the feedback you get from the Job Information Exchange community at large.
- SHOULD I PUT MY EMAIL ADDRESS OR PHONE NUMBER ON MY RESUME?
This is entirely up to you; however, you do so at your own risk, and many will choose not to. Keep in mind that if you put any personal information in your resume or letter, it can be seen by anyone viewing this site. There are some programs designed to automatically seek out and "harvest" email addresses from the internet, exposing those email addresses to potential unwanted email. To protect yourself from this you may want to set up a special email account for use with this site. There are many web based email services that are free and very easy to set up. You may also decide to remove any personal information (real name, email, phone number, etc) from your resume before posting it. In this case recruiters may still easily contact you free of charge through the Job Information Exchange (see below, FAQ number 10)
- WHAT IS AN ALIAS?
Select a screen name you would like to be referred to by the community. Your alias is a fictitious name that you will choose to identify yourself on this site. Since your privacy is important, you may post your resume such that no personal information such as your real name, email address, phone number, etc. is exposed. In this case, since each alias is unique, if direct communication is desired it can be accomplished via the moderator. If a recruiter wishes to contact you about a job opportunity, he/ she may contact you easily via the moderator (see below, FAQ number 10).
- WHY DO I NEED A PASSWORD?
All communication between you and the Job Information Exchange administration must be verified with a password. Some examples are editing or updating your resume or letter, deletion of an account, and allowing two way communication between you and a third party. In the context of this web site, that third party would most likely be a recruiter.
- I AM A RECRUITER- WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME?
Recruiters, like anyone else, are allowed free access to all posted resumes and letters. You may post suggestions, ideas to the participants freely. If you have a job opening and would like to contact a participant, that can easily be accomplished either directly or via the moderator (see below).
- I AM A RECRUITER- HOW CAN I CONTACT A POTENTIAL JOB CANDIDATE?
If you wish, you may post a reply to the individual with your job description, contact information, etc. Please keep in mind that if you post a reply, any information you supply may be seen by anyone accessing this site. If you wish to remain anonymous, click on the link "Send private message to ...." either above or below the resume area. This will open your default email program. Please do not alter in any way the text in the subject field. Your email will be sent to the Job Information Exchange email forwarding service and you will receive a reply email confirming that the job candidate has been contacted. Some resumes will have the individuals email address on the resume itself. In this case, you may skip the process above and send your email directly to the candidate.
- DO I HAVE TO REGISTER TO PARTICIPATE?
No. Only those who wish to post their resumes must register. I you only want to view resumes, you may do so without registering or logging in. If you want to respond to a posted resume, simply click on the link "Reply to ..." positioned both above and below the resume text. A text box will appear in which you may type your message. Click on "Post New Reply" when you are done with your message -- it's as simple as that! When your message is displayed, the alias shown will be "Anonymous", however, if you are a recruiter and wish to post your contact information, you may type it into your message text. A proper email typed into a message will be automatically converted to a link.
- MY JOB CATEGORY IS NOT LISTED- WHAT SHOULD I DO?
If you feel that your job field is not represented well by the categories listed, click here, and most likely it will be added.
- ADVERTISERS-
If you would like to advertise on our site, click here and send us a messaqe with your contact and company information, and we will be happy to discuss the details with you.
